Description
AC Joint Repair Button (Suspensory Fixation System):
An AC joint repair button is an implant used in orthopedic surgery to stabilize the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, usually after an AC joint dislocation (commonly Rockwood type III–V).
🔹 Design & Structure:
Consists of two small metallic or composite buttons connected with a high-strength suture loop (like FiberWire or similar).
One button is placed on the superior clavicle, and the other passes through the coracoid process, securing the clavicle back to its anatomical position.
🔹 Function:
Acts like an internal brace, holding the clavicle and coracoid together.
Allows for biological healing of torn ligaments (coracoclavicular ligaments).
Provides strong fixation while minimizing hardware irritation compared to plates or screws.
🔹 Advantages:
Minimally invasive (arthroscopic or mini-open).
Preserves normal anatomy.
Early mobilization possible.
Reduces risk of hardware removal (unlike hook plates).
